Chip off the Old Loc’s 2023/24 Premier League team ratings
- Player of the season : Phil Foden
- Young player of the season : Cole Palmer
- Manager of the season : Unai Emery (Oliver Glasner a close second)
- Game of the season : Chelsea 4- 4 Man City
- Most underrated player of the season : John McGinn
- Signing of the season : Cole Palmer
- United Player of the season : Diogo Dalot
- United moment of the season : winning the FA Cup

Manchester City - A - Typical City. Putting on the burners after Christmas. They didn’t play their usual cohesive and scintillating football, but they still do what they do, and won an unprecedented 4th Prem title in a row, which is extraordinary. I think that the rest of the league will only have a chance when Pep has left. We all pray for Phil Foden to light up the euros as he has done the League this season.

Arsenal - A - So close. What more could they have done. Winning vs Villa springs to mind! Rice was always expected to have the impact he did but the defence had a fantastic season. White, Saliba and Gabriel were immense. Over reliance on a small crop of core players, but the output from Odegaard, Havertz and Saka was fantastic. Now champions league regulars, let’s see if they can go for the title again next year.

Liverpool - B+ - not much was expected from them with their midfield on paper at the start of the season. Once Klopp announced his departure, the clamours of a potential quadruple begun. However, after a Cup final win, the game against Palace derailed their title hopes, losing in extra time against United in the FA cup, culminating in a loss against Atalanta to ensure they couldn’t win the Europa League.

Aston Villa - A+ - wow. What a season. a strange beginning against Newcastle losing 5-1 and strange ending at Selhurt Park losing 5-0, however doing the Double against Arsenal, beating Man City, were just a few of the highlights. A new contract for Unai Emery is well deserved. Ollie Watkins would ultimately start for any other nation with the numbers he has put up, however there’s no replacing Harry Kane. Here’s to the Champions League.

Spurs - B - incredible start to the season. Maddison just fell off the gas after his injury. Van De Ven a fantastic signing. Ange needs to calm down during his media displays. European football is not to be sniffed at.

Chelsea - C+ - too odd a season to give them a positive score, however Palmer the unequivocal standout. Keeper issues at the back with great performances from Petrovic - will Sanchez come back to firm up his position? Need new CBs, will they sell Gallagher? Why did they get rid of Poch? So many questions, and so much uncertainty. They have been so confusing this season, and need to sort themselves out.

Newcastle - B - not quite enough this season. Similar to Arsenal, over reliance on a small crop of players, largely down to injury. Isak is amazing. Guimaraes will probably be playing elsewhere, but the job Howe is doing is commendable.

United - D - I have spoken enough about United this season, but it was a capped off with a fine day at Wembley. Who knows what next season will bring. Get rid of the deadwood. Be smart with recruitment. And in contrast to what I was saying previously, STICK with the manager.

West Ham - C - - what were they meant to do with no Declan Rice? David Moyes has done a fantastic job during his tenure. Pretty average season.

Crystal Palace - 1st half of the season - C 2nd half of the season - A - Oliver Glasner has proven to be incredible. He has got Mateta, Eze and Olise all singing from the same hymn sheet. Marc Guehi, Adam Wharton, Nathaniel Clyne, Dean Henderson, the Englishman are becoming vital to this palace side. Buzzing to see what they are capable of next year, and whether they can retain Olise and Eze.

Brighton - D - not the Brighton we have come to know and love. From getting into the Europa League to finishing 11th - it has been a disappointing season culminating in De Zerbi leaving. Ewan Ferguson’s value has taken a plummet, I don’t quite know what’s happened there. Estupinian hasn’t provided enough either after a fantastic previous season.

Bournemouth - B - solid solid season. Solanke and Iraiola the standouts. Fantastic effort.

Fulham - C - a normal Fulham season. Capable of holding their own against top teams, but capitulating to the lower ones.

Wolves - C - - many injuries and awful decisions going against them. Gary O’Neil is going to move to a big club in the near future i am sure of it - a win against Man City was the highlight.

Everton - B - Sean Dyche did what he does. With the reputational issues and the points docking meant that the off field problems were more overpowering than the onfield ones. Their resolve was great and the game against Liverpool was majestic, Pickford and Branthwaite in particular were fantastic.

Brentford - D - disappointing season, but the injury woes were plentiful. Ivan Toney was also out for the first half of the season. Thomas Frank has done a great job but they struggled this season. Let’s see what they can do next year.

Forest - E - a joke at times. Hiring Clattenburg, social media wars. In the words of Roy Keane - ‘do your job’. Focus on what happens on the pitch. Hudson Odoi and Chris Wood the highlights of a difficult season - granted lots of decisions went against them!

Luton - C+ - based on what was expected of them - they were quite fantastic at times. They made Kenilworth road extremely difficult to go to. I hope to see them back soon.

Burnley - D - couldn’t respond to Kompany’s methods, he stuck to type too often. To now be in line for the Bayern role, is quite shocking. Had their moments.

Sheffield United - F - over 100 goals conceded. Chris Wilder is a good manager too. Awful season.
